What Really Inspired Devlin

When I first started writing Devlin, people assumed he was just another dark, complicated character born from the chaos of Khillerchronicles. But the truth is—Devlin came from a very real place in me.
There was a point in my life when I felt like I didn’t fit inside my own skin. My memories, my past, the person I was becoming—it all felt disconnected. I wanted to escape, to burn down who I was and rebuild into someone else entirely. That battle with identity, the need to shed an old self that no longer felt like me, was terrifying. But it was also where Devlin was born.
Devlin isn’t just a character who wrestles with stolen memories or being something he never asked to be. He’s the embodiment of that universal struggle: Who am I when the person in the mirror doesn’t feel like me anymore? Writing him gave me a way to process those feelings—his chaos mirrored my own, but through him, I found clarity in the mess.
At his core, Devlin is about survival. About learning that even when you feel broken, or like you want to erase yourself completely, there’s still a spark worth fighting for.
So when you read Devlin’s story, know that it isn’t just fiction. It’s a reflection of the fight I had with myself—a fight to tear down, rebuild, and finally learn to live in the person I am becoming.
